Capturing the Racine Internet Generation

Today, effective marketing strategies are no longer limited to print medias. As increasing numbers of Racine's residents no longer subscribe or read newspapers, the emphasis has shifted to computers and internet web sites.
The baby boomer generation (born 1946-1964) are often the least appreciative of this shift even though they are often the owners of established businesses. Following them is Generation X (born 1963-1981) who are increasingly making important business decisions. This generation likely had a computer in their twenties if not before, but the internet was primarily a tool for email and bulletin boards. As a member of this generation and living in Racine, my classmates at Racine Washington Park High School who had home computers used them almost exclusively as high tech typewriters.
The wise business owner understands that a large percentage of Racine's Generation Y citizens (born 1977-1994 )are now consumers, earning and spending money. The important difference is not that they use cell phones and the internet, because you and I do that too. The difference is how they use their cell phones and the internet.
Grabbing the telephone book is just not the first thing many younger consumers do when they want to find a business to help them solve a problem. While a telephone book may still be the fastest way to get a number, its limited information often makes it the last choice for Generation Y. After all, why settle for a number when a search engine (like Google) or a local Racine directory (like this one) will provide a number, a map and often times a web site.
So when its 9 pm and the toilet clogs, the washing machine won't spin, or someone wants to know where they can get a new pair of prescription sunglasses, a business web site can be the difference between connecting with a potential customer or being just another number. Depending on your business, the addition of one or two customers or service calls may be all it takes to break even on the yearly cost of your web site. More than likely your Racine business web site will not only increase your profit, but brand your company's name and logo into the minds of Racine's newest consumers.
