Here's Your Ticket to Better Dancing!Written by Cindy Martin Posted: 4/17/08
If you have ever dreamed about becoming an incredible dancer then perhaps dancing lessons would be a good idea. Dancing lessons are the quickest way to learn the steps involved in most styles of dancing and no matter how you decide to take lessons, via one on one service or instruction videos, you will gain some valuable experience in the process. Dance lessons just may be your ticket to better dancing!
It’s known that one on one service, through either private lessons or through group studio lessons, are the best way to learn how to dance quickly. However, not everyone has the time or energy to go through with these lessons and they can certainly be stressful, never mind expensive. With the advent of the internet more and more people are utilizing virtual lessons instead of music and dance schools.
Why use the internet to learn how to dance? The internet obviously has its pros in terms of taking dance lessons. It is very convenient. Think about it: You don’t have to drive anywhere. You cannot possibly be late and you can do your lessons at any time of the day or night you please. Virtual lessons are also cheap. Since the instructor is making a general video for a wider array of people it can be purchased at a much lower price then actual lessons in a school. If price is a concern then you should look into dancing lessons online. There are a few downsides however.
The major con about internet dance lessons is that you can’t get any feedback. There is no instructor by your side telling you what you’re doing right and what you’re doing wrong. With no instructor you can easily pick up bad habits and practice the wrong form, which could be very difficult to fix. Without a teacher by your side you also lose valuable motivation. Dancing requires a lot of motivation and teachers help provide it. When you have a virtual teacher it becomes much easier to ‘skip class’ so to speak. If you are a self motivated person though you should be just fine.
One of the most popular dance lesson videos is called the “Anyone can dance” series and it is put out by popular teachers Donald Johnson and Kasia Kozak. Donald and Kasia walk students through a DVD of how to learn nearly any style of dancing, from Latin to Ballroom in a very short amount of time. The videos are straight forward and have already taught thousands of people their favorite dance moves.
If you are seriously considering dance lessons you should seriously consider looking on the internet, especially if there aren’t any specialized studios near you.
